The basics of diet in the past was bread. Yeast free bread is called pogača, corn flour bread is called “kuruza”, while bread bought in a bakery or a store, i.e. “bought” bread is called somun.
“Kalenderovac cheese” is a traditional fat cow cheese which is a characteristic for the area of Derventa. It was named after Kalenderovci Village, where, upon the end of the World War the Second, the organized and mass production of the cheese had started in an agricultural association.
Larger number of village and agricultural households, in villages of Derventa, are engaged in production of healthy homemade and ecological products. Usually, those are bee products, organic food, homemade syrups, as well as teas.
Derventa chocolate boutique “MD Chocolate Boutique“ is located in Derventa town center, on Trg Oslobođenja Square. The Chocolate Boutique was opened in April of 2016, and it is the only chocolate boutique in this part of Republic of Srpska.
Traditional drinks. The most widened alcoholic beverage in Derventa area is plum brandy, while wine is more rarely consumed. In the past, during the winter, the most consumed soft drinks were brine and fruit pickle (usually from wild pears), while during the summer those were whey and TIR with apple vinegar and sugar.
